The Texas High Tigersharks swimming team is facing a year of transition and rebuilding, but that doesn't mean they're backing down from their ambitious goals. With a smaller squad of 19 swimmers, including 5 freshmen, the team is determined to make a splash in the upcoming season. Despite the reduced numbers, the Tigersharks are aiming high, with a target of getting at least 15 swimmers to Regionals and at least three to the State Championships. This is a significant challenge, considering the team's previous strength and depth, which saw them consistently reach the state championships with a larger roster. However, the team's head coach, Eric Vogan, is confident in the potential of his swimmers, particularly highlighting the talent of junior Reagan Ramage, who has been making waves in sprint events since her freshman year. Additionally, sophomore Cason Hanson and freshmen sprinters Aiden Edwards and Claire McCasland are expected to contribute significantly to the team's success in distance and sprint events, respectively. Vogan and assistant coach Susan Likins are implementing a rigorous training regimen, focusing on stroke efficiency and dryland training, to ensure the team is competition-ready. The season gets underway on September 11th with a match against Longview High School, followed by a series of invitational meets and tournaments throughout the fall and winter. The team's schedule culminates in the Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association meet, which will be held at the Texarkana Independent School District Aquatic Center in November. Despite the challenges of a smaller team, the Tigersharks are determined to make their mark, and with the right combination of talent, hard work, and strategic coaching, they just might achieve their goals and make a strong showing in the upcoming season.
